More Than a Century of Golf at Basin Harbor
Golf has been part of Basin Harbor for more than a century. The club’s golf story began in 1916, when second-generation host A.P. Beach laid out the original holes. In 1927, Scottish professional Alex “Nipper” Campbell expanded the course to nine holes, and in 1955 it grew into the 18-hole layout that largely shaped the course golfers know today. In 1980, noted golf course architect Geoffrey Cornish was brought in to renovate and modernize the course.
That history matters because it gives Basin Harbor a rare continuity. The Golf Club at Basin Harbor reflects generations of golf tradition in Vergennes while continuing to evolve for today’s players. For golfers who value both heritage and playability, that combination helps make Basin Harbor one of the distinctive golf experiences in Vermont.
